Kiki Kallira has always been a worrier. Did she lock the front door? Is there a terrible reason her mom is late? Recently her anxiety has been getting out of control, but one thing that has always soothed her is drawing. Kiki ends up falling into the mystical world she drew, which includes a lot of wonderful discoveries like the band of rebel kids who protect the kingdom, as well as not-so-great ones like the ancient deity bent on total destruction.

Kiki van der Heiden is a visual and fibre artist, born in the Netherlands. Inshe moved from Amsterdam to Haida Gwaii. Her studio is a small, round building nestled in hemlock and cedar trees on Roberston Island.
Kiki creates paintings, felt creations, prints, and installations that reflect the ever-changing environment of the islands, and of herself. She shares the magic of felt-making and the joy of painting through art exhibitions and collaborative projects. It looks like a drum, which guides the earth where Taan is from.
Alison Gear has based this wonderfully engaging and thoughtful story on one version of the Haida Moon cycle. It follows Taan as she experiences the wonder of the unfolding seasons.
This is a story woven together by the community on Haida Gwaii. Alison and Kiki worked closely with elders, teachers, children, parents, and caregivers to produce this unforgettable book. The title of each moon cycle has been translated into both Skidegate and Old Massett Haida, honouring language and wisdom. We certainly agree.
We also want to give sincere thanks to Joanne Yovanovich, Tawni Davidson, Beng Favreau, and ArtStarts in Schools for their contribution to and support of this important book. Authenticity Note: This book has been given the Authentic Indigenous Text label because of the collaboration of Indigenous peoples to create it.
